During the 40 years the KNLU Department of Slavic Philology has prepared more than 2600 teachers and interpreters from 55 countries all over the world. Nowadays the citizens from 21 countries of Asia, Europe and America study Russian and Ukrainian. Moreover, they also study one of the languages of the European Union (English/German).

Studying at the Department of Slavic Philology

BACHALOR PROGRAMME

Degree “Bachalor”
Subject Area – 035 Philology
Study Program – 035.03 Slavic Languages and Literatures (translation included)

Educational program:
–    The Russian Language and the Second Foreign Language;
–    The Theory and Practice of Translation from the Russian language and the Second Foreign Language

Bachelor is the degree of higher education, which provides the obtaining of theoretical knowledge and practical skills sufficient to the successful performance of professional duties in the chosen specialty.
The admission of foreign citizens for bachelor programme is performed on the competitive basis.
Admission examination is conducted in the form of the exams in the Russian Language and the English Language.
Complete secondary education and the level of knowledge sufficient for the digestion of the studying material (which is confirmed by the certificate of the Preparatory Department) is the condition for enrolling of foreign citizen for studying to obtain Bachelor degree.
Graduates obtain qualifications “Bachelor of Arts, expert in the Russian and English (German) Languages” or “Bachalor of Arts, expert in translation (the Russian Language and the English Language)”.

Fee: tuition fee for 2017/2018 academic year – 31240 UAH (paid in Ukrainian currency).

MASTER PROGRAMME

Degree “Master”
Subject Area – 035 Philology
Study Program – 035.03 Slavic Languages and Literatures (translation included)

Educational program:
–    The Russian Language and Literature, the English Language and their teaching methods;
–    Industry Translation: the Russian Language, the English Language.

Master is the degree of higher education of a student who has received in-depth special knowledge and skills of an innovative character on the basis of a bachelor's qualification.
The admission of foreign citizens for master programme is performed on the competitive basis as well as admission exam.
Admission examination is conducted in the form of the entrance examination in the specialty (the Russian Language) and the speaking exam in the foreign language (English or German).
Bachelor diploma of the necessary field is the condition for enrolling of a foreign citizen to obtain Master degree.
Students who have obtained Bachelor degree not in Ukraine have to submit documents with nostrification in the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.
Graduates obtain qualifications “Master of Arts in the Russian Language and Literature, philologist-researcher, lecturer of the Russian and the English (German) Languages and Russian Literatures” or “Master of Arts in Translation, philologist, translator of the Russian and English languages”.

Fee: tuition fee for 2017/2018 academic year – 31240 UAH (paid in Ukrainian currency).

How to obtain the invitation for studying and entry visa

In order to get the invitation for studying, it is necessary send to the e-mail of the Department of Slavic Philology ( This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. ) scanned copies of the following documents:

• letter of request for admission to the university;
• scanned copy of international passport ( a page with photo);
• scanned copy of the document of education with grades;
• letter of consent for the processing of personal data;

After receiving consent from Kiev National Linguistic University and payment for visa facilitation, the applicant will be issued an invitation for entry to study in Ukraine.

To obtain an entry visa for study in Ukraine it is necessary:
• apply to the Ukrainian Embassy in your own country or a neighboring country with an application for the issuance of an entry visa for studying in Ukraine;
• attach to the application the invitation to study from Kiev National Linguistic    University.

Registration of an entry visa takes about a month, so in order to receive an invitation for studying, it is necessary to send these documents at least two months before the start of classes. Conditions for admission to study

Admission for studying is performed through entry tests on the basis of a contract signed by the university administration with an applicant or with another natural or legal person; admission is also possible on the basis of interstate agreements on letters from the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.

Requirements for applicants

– secondary education;
–  satisfactory health condition;

The length of apprenticeship

–  Preparatory Department – 1 year;
–  Bachelor Program – 4 years;
–  Master Program – 1 year and 4 months.

The list of the documents required for admission of foreign citizens to the Department of Slavic Philology of KNLU:

1.    The original of an invitation for study from the university.
2.    The original and two notarized copies of a document of the end of the school.
3.    The original and two notarized copies of grades to the school certificate.
4.    A notarized copy of a birth certificate.
5.    A certificate of the preparatory department completion.
6.    Three notarized copies of a passport (a page with a photo).
7.    A notarized copy of a medical certificate of health. 
8.    12 photos in size 3,5x 4,5 (colored, matte).

*The documents mentioned in p. 2, 3, 4, 7 are to be certified in accordance with the legislation of the country of issue and legalized in the order established by the state bodies of Ukraine unless other documents are stipulated by international treaties of Ukraine.

Dormitory accommodation in KNLU

For accommodation in a dormitory, a foreign citizen has to:
1. Sign an agreement for accommodation (building № 3, room 910).
2. Pay for accommodation.
3. Obtain an accommodation order (building № 3, room 910).
4. Obtain a pass to the dormitory.
Foreign citizens are provided with a 3- and 4-bed room of a block dormitory.
Accommodation charge in the dormitory in 2017/2018 academic year is 6000 UAH per year.

Medical service

Foreign citizens must necessarily have an insurance policy to provide emergency medical care. The cost of an insurance policy is determined by agreement with the insurance company.
Students must undergo a medical examination every year and take tests for the absence of HIV infection.

Residence permit in Ukraine

To obtain a residence permit in Ukraine, a foreign citizen must submit the following documents to the senior inspector of the international relations department (building 3, room 911) within three days upon arrival in Ukraine:
1.    Application.
2.    Passport document of a foreign citizen with a visa "D", unless otherwise provided by legislation and international treaties of Ukraine, and copies of pages with personal data and visa.
3.    Notarized document of personal data translated into the Ulrainian language.
4.    Receipt of payment of state fee.
5.    Six photos of a foreign citizen in size 3,5x4,5 cm (colored, matte).

The residence permit in Ukraine is issued for the period of studying

If information has changed during the period of validity of the residence permit in the documents mentioned in pp. 2-3, such documents are submitted within 10 days from the date of such changes to the senior inspector of the international relations department.

The residence permit is issued to the foreign citizen against receipt, a note on the receipt of the residence permit is stamped, which is sealed with the seal of LCA in the passport document of the foreign citizen on the last free page.

After receiving the residence permit a foreign citizen must register the place of residence within 10 days, and in case of its change – re-register in the order established by the Law of Ukraine "On freedom of movement and free choice of residence in Ukraine".

After the expiration of education in the absence of grounds for extending the validity of the residence permit or expulsion from the university, the foreign citizen is obliged:
1.  Within seven days, depart of the registration at the place of residence.
2. To issue a temporary residence permit in Ukraine and a passport to a senior inspector of the Department of International Relations (building 3, room 911).
3.  Receive a "Decision" LCA and a passport, which the annulled mark on the issuance of a residence permit in Ukraine.
4.  To leave Ukraine.
